Volunteer Job Descriptions
TIMER: Front row view of the competition (12 per meet). JOB: Listen for a beep & click a button; watch swimmers touch the wall & click again. COMMITMENT: Remain attentive and stay for the whole meet.
RUNNER: Another front row view of the competition (2 per meet). JOB: Wait for the end of each swim event and collect 1 timer sheet from each lane. COMMITMENT: Stay for the whole meet (or split with a friend).
RIBBONS: Calling all organization gurus (2 per meet). JOB: Add result stickers to ribbons then file them alphabetically. COMMITMENT: You can arrive a little after the start of the meet but you need to stay until the final results are posted--usually a little after the meet ends.
REFRESHMENTS CREW: Hospitality experts please take note (2 per meet). JOB: Keep volunteers hydrated and organize snacks for the break (1/2 way through the meet). COMMITMENT: Deliver and organize refreshments/ice for the other volunteers before the meet starts.
SET UP / CLEAN UP: Can't stay the whole home meet? This job is for you! JOB: Hang signs, set up the automation tables and tent, take supplies out of the closet for timers/automation, set up lane numbers. Clean up takes it all down and puts it away! COMMITMENT: Set up arrives 45 minutes before home meets start. Clean up stays 45 minutes after home meets end.
CLERK OF COURSE: You have heard of herding cats, this is wrangling kids! JOB: Line-up the swimmers in order immediately before they race. (And help calm nerves for the young swimmers.) COMMITMENT: Stay for the whole meet.
